Objective: Design a typographic poster series advertising hypothetical events for three social justice movements: Black Lives Matter, The Mothers of Plaza de Mayo, and Chibok's Bring Back Our Girls. Create a cohesive series with posters unique to each movement.
ABOUT THE MOVEMENTS
Black Lives Matter: Although originating after the death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, the Black Lives Matter movement hit a peak during the summer of 2020 following George Floyd's death. Millions of people across the United States protested to end systemic racism, discrimination, and inequality targeted towards black people.
Mothers of Plaza de Mayo:  Formed from the Argentinian women whose children were stolen from them by the military dictatorship during the Dirty war. Approximately 30,000 people went missing, and were never accounted for. The mothers gathered once a week in front of the presidential palace, despite mass gatherings being illegal, wearing embroidered diapers as headscarves.
Chibok's Bring Back Our Girls: 276 schoolgirls from Chibok, Nigeria were abducted in the middle of the night by an Islamic terrorist group. Over a million people across the world posted to #BringBackOurGirls, the most notable being former First Lady, Michelle Obama.
PRELIMINARY SKETCHES
I focused on symbols that represent each movement,    to allow individuality while  also upholding the cohesion  of the series.
TYPE EXPLORATION
I printed out key text and physically manipulated them to create unique shapes. I used a clear umbrella handle to distort my text.
PROCESS WORK
The symbols I originally used was the fist for Black Lives Matter, an embroidered diaper head covering for the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo, and a protest picket sign for Chibok's Bring Back Our Girls.
FINAL POSTER
Concept: Forcing Hands
These three social movements all have the common goal of getting the governments attention, and demanding for justice. The brave individuals fighting for these causes are forcing the government's hands to spur change. I focused on highlighting a hand that correlates with each movement.
