Stand Up: 3 Social Movements

Typographic Poster Series

Stand Up is a cohesive poster series advertising hypothetical events for three social justice movements: Black Lives Matter, The Mothers of Plaza de Mayo, and Chibok's Bring Back Our Girls. Each poster is unique with visual ties to connect them as a series.

Black Lives Matter

Mothers of Plaza de Mayo

Chiboks Bring Back Our Girls

Originating after the death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, the Black Lives Matter movement hit a peak during the summer of 2020 following George Floyd's death. Millions of people across the United States protested to end the systemic racism, discrimination, and inequality that black people face.
Formed by the Argentinian women whose children were stolen from them by the military dictatorship during the Dirty war. Around 30,000 people went missing, never to be accounted for. The mothers gathered weekly in front of the presidential palace, despite mass gatherings being illegal, wearing embroidered diapers as headscarves. 276 schoolgirls from Chibok, Nigeria were abducted in the middle of the night by an Islamic terrorist group. Over a million people across the world posted with the #BringBackOurGirls to put pressure on the Nigerian govenment to search for the missing girls.

Concept: Forcing Hands
These three social movements all have the common goal of getting the governments attention, and demanding for justice. The brave individuals fighting for these causes are forcing the government's hands to spur change. Focus on hand imagery correlating with each movement.
